The increased amount of time children are sitting inside watching TV, playing computer games and surfing the Internet instead of playing outdoors is a major contributor. A recent study published by the Canadian Medical Association Journal showed that the average Canadian child is sedentary for 3-5 hours a day in front of the TV alone. This is on top of the 5-6 hours most children spend sitting at school, 5 days per week.
